UI Case Study: Home Aura - Captivating Furniture App

Problem Statement

Design an intuitive and captivating iOS and Android application, Home Aura, that offers a delightful online shopping experience for furniture collections. The app should also provide users with the option to book appointments with skilled designers for personalized interior design services. The challenge is to create a seamless user journey, merging inspiration with functionality while adhering to the style guide and delivering a visually engaging UI.

Research Phase

In this phase, I conducted market research, user interviews, and competitor analysis to understand user needs and pain points.

User Interviews:
We interviewed potential users to gather insights into their preferences, shopping behaviors, and challenges faced when shopping for furniture online. Users expressed the desire for an app that offers a wide range of furniture styles, high-quality images, and detailed product descriptions. They also emphasized the importance of a simple and intuitive UI for easy navigation.

Competitor Analysis:
We analyzed existing furniture apps to identify strengths and weaknesses in their user experiences. This analysis helped us identify opportunities to differentiate Home Aura and create a unique selling proposition.

Ideation Phase

Based on the research insights, we defined the following goals for the Home Aura app:

  1. Create an intuitive and user-friendly interface for easy navigation.
  2. Showcase a diverse range of furniture collections with high-quality images and detailed descriptions.
  3. Enable users to book appointments with skilled interior designers for personalized services.
  4. Ensure consistency and adherence to the style guide throughout the app.

Design Phase

Style Guide:

We designed a comprehensive style guide to maintain consistency and coherence throughout the app. The style guide includes the following elements:

  1. Primary Colors: #1D7874 (Myrtle Green) and #FF6700 (Sparkling Orange) to evoke a sense of elegance and warmth.
  2. Button Styles and Sizes: Rounded rectangular buttons with a 20px border radius.
  3. Typography: Rubik font, with font size 20px for headings and 16px for body text.
  4. Card Format: Cards with drop shadows to give depth and visual appeal. Consistent spacing and alignment for a clean look.
  5. Iconography: A set of minimalistic icons to enhance the user experience without cluttering the interface.

We created a detailed wireframe with 45 screens to illustrate the user journey and app flow. The wireframe covers the following key sections:

  1. Onboarding: Introducing users to the app and its features.
  2. Home: Showcasing featured furniture collections and personalized recommendations.
  3. Product Catalog: Displaying furniture categories with filtering and sorting options.
  4. Product Details: Providing comprehensive information about each product with high-quality images.
  5. Shopping Cart: Allowing users to review and modify their selected items before checkout.
  6. Checkout: Simplifying the payment process with a seamless and secure flow.
  7. Appointment Booking: Enabling users to schedule appointments with interior designers.
  8. Profile: Managing user accounts, order history, and personal preferences.

UI Design Phase

In this phase, we transformed the wireframes into visually engaging UI designs while maintaining the style guide’s specifications.

Imaginary UI Design Problem: One of the challenges during the UI design phase was creating a visually appealing checkout process that reassures users about the security of their payment information while ensuring a smooth flow to minimize cart abandonment.

We designed a one-page checkout with a progress bar, clearly indicating the steps in the process.

  1. To instill trust, we included security badges and SSL certification details near the payment options.
  2. We minimized the number of form fields, enabling users to complete the checkout swiftly.
  3. We incorporated multiple payment options, including credit cards, digital wallets, and PayPal, to cater to different user preferences.

Working Prototype

The Home Aura app concept aims to offer users a delightful journey of creativity and convenience. With its intuitive interface, captivating UI, and personalized design services, Home Aura is set to become a standout player in the furniture e-commerce industry.
